About the role:
Due to network growth and development, we’re looking to welcome a Network Engineer to our Engineering team. This role focuses on the design and development of substations and major network projects, supporting the integration of distributed generation, improving network resilience, and evolving design standards and processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Undertake engineering calculations, studies, and technical assessments to support substation development, asset upgrades and replacements, and distributed generation connections
- Support the integration of new technologies and solutions that improve network resilience, performance, and safety
- Use and develop digital, modelling, and analysis tools to improve engineering decision‑making
- Develop and evolve our internal standards, specifications, and engineering practices
- Provide sound technical information to support other MainPower teams in the planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and renewal of our assets
- Assess alternative solutions, technologies, and equipment objectively and rigorously
- Collaborate with internal teams, external consultants, suppliers, and industry participants
About you:
You are an analytical and curious engineer who wants to deepen and apply your understanding of how electricity networks are designed, built, and improved. You enjoy solving complex technical problems, learning from experienced engineers, and seeing how design decisions translate into real‑world infrastructure.
You are comfortable working with data, asking questions, and contributing thoughtfully in a safety‑critical environment where projects make a real difference to local communities.
Additionally, you will bring:
- A Level 7 qualification or higher in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
- Relevant experience in power systems or substation engineering
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and planning skills
- The ability to communicate technical information clearly to a range of stakeholders
- Experience with power system modelling software (PowerFactory, ETAP, Sincal) is advantageous
