About the role:

Due to network growth and development, we’re looking for an experienced Design Engineer to join our Design team. In this role you will have responsibility for designing MainPower’s HV and LV reticulation network, including both overhead and underground assets. You will do detailed design for new builds, upgrades, and replacements, supporting both network and customer-driven projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and scope design projects to provide accurate information for budgeting and detailed design
  • Undertake detailed design, including engineering calculations and technical assessments to ensure safe, compliant, and functional outcomes
  • Use and develop our digital tools to support and improve our design capability
  • Support the management and change control of drawings and documentation
  • Liaise with external design consultants and suppliers, including writing project scopes and reviewing deliverables
  • Provide sound technical information to support other MainPower teams in the planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and renewal of our assets
  • Assess alternative solutions, technologies, and equipment objectively and rigorously
  • Collaborate with other industry participants, with a particular focus on standardisation

 

About you:

You are curious and innovative, able to clearly communicate technical information, and work constructively to resolve complex challenges. You will already be producing designs and plans for new build and upgrade projects for both HV and LV networks. You are very familiar with design requirements for underground, ground-mount and overhead network assets, and you can demonstrate excellent management of workflow and documentation.

Additionally, you will bring:

  • Relevant engineering qualification
  • Proficiency with CAD and drawings management
  • Technical knowledge of industry standards and regulations
  • Preferably, experience with modelling software such as Neara, COLDNet, or PLS-CAD
